Maybe this is how it will work. . .

I have a few other tchotchkes from my time on the Rose Red set. . . a glass (maybe it's faux glass) paperweight, a wrist watch and the script (and lots more dominoes AND the script for the Rose Red sequel "The Diary of Ellen Rimbauer") so I'm gonna make this a contest, sort of. Anyone who wants to play along has to find one of the dominos. I'm going to include a password or something that will identify the domino as one of the ones that I will have hidden. If you find a domino send me an email and include the password and "Rose Red" or "Domino" in the subject line. The email should also include a photo of the finder and the domino at the location of the find. OK, if you are camera shy, just the domino but I have to be able to identify the location of the find in the photo. Any other info you want to include in the email about how and when you found the domino would be fun, too but that's up to you. The paperweight, the wrist watch (I think it still works. I've never worn it) and the script will be given away as prizes but I haven't yet figured out what will actually determine a winner. Since I'm gonna be on the road for the next six months and I'll be hiding these dominoes all during my trek, this is gonna take awhile. Also, everything I own, including the above mentioned prizes, will be in storage while I'm away and I'm sure it's gonna be a bit longer after I get back that I will get to unpacking that storage space so we're looking at about an 8 or 9 month endeavor for this project.

Well, watch this space for more info and I'm open to suggestions. Anyone interested in making a chase of this? Catch me if you can!

Rose Red RTW Domino Hunt

OK, I'm not going to be able to make this as intriguing (or maybe even as fun) as I'd like to but I'm not gonna let that stop me from doing it all the same. Just what is this "IT" that I'm talking about? Well, it's not the "It" of the title of Mr. King's novel but it does have to do with Mr. King. Years ago I worked as a below the line crew member on the production of the mini-series Stephen King's Rose Red. In the miniseries there's a scene involving dominoes. After filming was completed, I was able to get a bunch of those dominoes and I'm going to be hiding them around the world as I make my first circumnavigation of the globe. After I've hidden a domino, I'll leave directions to its location on this blog. I'd like to be very clever and make it so you have to solve riddles and puzzles or decipher codes and such to locate the dominoes but A)I'm not that clever so the 'clue' will be something like "It's hidden above the third stall in the ladies loo at such and such a movie theatre". And B) I'd like to think that I'm going to be preoccupied with exploring strange new lands and seeking out new life and new. . . OK, I'm mixing my media metaphors but you know what I mean. This domino hunt is not the main objective of my trip but I've been carrying a whole bag of these things around since that production back in 2000 and it's about time I did something with them and this is what I came up with. As I go along with this little side project maybe the clues and hiding places will get better. I'm thinking of offering a prize for the person who finds the most dominoes. I might inscribe each domino with a code word and do something with that idea.

Well, as you can see-The Rose Red Domino Hunt is an evolving endeavor and all I know for sure is that I'm starting my trip on Sept 2nd from Portland OR. That's the only for sure thing. The next thing may be that the first domino will be hidden in the moors of Dartmoor National Park, UK on or about Sept 4th.

Watch here for further details of this adventure.
